Chow Mein Hotdish aka Iowa Chow Mein

Description

Easy, retro and I promise your family will love this dish. Great to freeze.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Lb. ground beef
  • 1 1/2 c celery, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 4 oz. jar sliced pimentos
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 1/2 soup cans water
  • 1/4 c soy sauce
  • 2/3 c uncooked rice (I use Jasmine, but any will do)

Instructions

  1. Preheat over to 350 degrees F.
  2. Break up and brown the ground beef
  3. Add onion, celery and pimento cooking for 5 minutes
  4. Stir in mushroom soup, water, and soy sauce
  5. Bring to a boil
  6. Remove from heat and put in an ovenproof dish (9×13)
  7. Sprinkle uncooked rice evenly over the hot mixture (don’t stir)
  8. Bake uncovered for 1 hour.

Notes

This recipe can be made Gluten-Free by using GF soy sauce and soup.
